On Sunday, Patrizia van der Weken set a new national record in the 200 metres at the Coque sporting centre, further demonstrating her exceptional form this indoor season.
For the Luxembourg sprint superstar, every detail matters, both in preparation and during the race itself. Whether at major international competitions or smaller local events like Sunday’s indoor championship, the margins are razor-thin. Just nine one-hundredths of a second separate van der Weken from the 60 metres indoor world record – a gap that is all but imperceptible to outsiders.
Van der Weken’s recent performances underscore her standing among the world’s best. Last weekend in Poland, she clocked 7.01 seconds in the 60 metres, the third-fastest time worldwide in the current indoor season. Her coach was not even surprised by the result, and on Sunday, Luxembourg’s Athlete of the Year 2025 confirmed that she is peaking at the right moment.
Competing on home ground, van der Weken delivered an excellent 60-metre time despite coming off a demanding training block. Without specific preparation for the longer distance, she also claimed a new national record in the 200 metres.
With three weeks remaining until the Indoor World Championships, van der Weken will now turn her focus to the global stage. She will be hoping to add to the two medals she secured during last season’s campaign.
