Ruben Querinjean shattered his own national record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to qualify for the world championships in Tokyo, becoming one of two Luxembourgish athletes now set to compete.

Luxembourg's Ruben Querinjean has qualified for the world championships in Tokyo after breaking his own national record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. He finished fourth at the international athletics meeting in Turku, Finland, with a time of 8:14.33 – more than four seconds faster than his previous best.

Germany’s Frederik Ruppert won the race in 8:10.39.

Fellow Luxembourgish athlete Patrizia van der Weken also competed in Turku, placing fifth in the 100 metres with a time of 11.20 seconds. It was her third race in five days. The event was won by New Zealand's Zoe Hobbs in 11.07 seconds.

Van der Weken has already secured her spot at the World Championships, meaning two Luxembourgish athletes are now confirmed for Tokyo.
