Luxembourg made an impressive start on the opening day of competitions, securing a total of 28 medals – 10 gold, seven silver, and 11 bronze – this strong performance places the Grand Duchy in second position on the medal table, just behind Cyprus.

Athletics

Charel Gaspar struck gold in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.08m. Despite matching Gaspar’s mark, Liechtenstein’s Joel Riesen had to settle for silver due to more failed attempts.

Noémie Pleimling delivered a strong performance in the javelin, reaching a distance of 50.73m – just 51cm short of the gold medal. That top spot went to Montenegro’s Marija Bogavac, while Cyprus’ Irene Jane Theodorou secured bronze with a throw of 50.34 meters.

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase final, Luxembourg’s Liz Weiler claimed silver with a time of 11:22.62. She finished just behind Cyprus’ Chrystalla Hadjipolydorou, who took gold in 11:17.04, and ahead of Andorra’s Jeanne Cros, who completed the podium in 11:37.92.

The men’s event brought even more success for Luxembourg, with two athletes stepping onto the podium. Gil Weicherding secured silver in 9:13.15, following gold medalist Nahuel Carabana Valenzuela of Andorra (9:09.50), while Charel Weicherding earned bronze in 9:19.82.

Luxembourg’s Mathis Espagnet clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 800m, finishing with a time of 1:50.58. The gold went to Andorra’s Pol Moya Betriu, who crossed the line in 1:47.85, while Malta’s Jared Micallef secured silver in 1:48.21.

Swimming

In the men’s 100m freestyle, Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri took gold with a time of 49.04s, finishing ahead of San Marino’s Matteo Oppioli (49.65) and Monaco’s Gabriel Crassard (50.86).

The men’s 200m butterfly final saw two Luxembourgers on the podium. Florian Frippiat won gold with a time of 2:03.52, narrowly beating Iceland’s Holmar Gretarsson (2:03.77) and Joao Reisen Braga Soares Carneiro (2:04.02) claimed bronze.

Luxembourg also struck gold in the women’s 200m butterfly, where Emma Barthel claimed first place in 2:23.45. She held off Malta’s Nirvana Micallef (2:23.94) and Cyprus’ Agathi Manoli (2:24.92).

Luxembourg’s Lou Jominet secured a bronze medal in the women’s 800-meter freestyle, adding yet another podium finish to the nation’s impressive swimming results.

To round off a golden day in the pool, Luxembourg’s men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team – Daleiden, Kemp, Chausson, and Henx – secured victory with a time of 3:24.11. Iceland took silver (3:25.01), while San Marino earned bronze (3:27.56).

Cycling

Luxembourg’s Alex Kirsch and Mats Wenzel secured silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the time trial event.

Marie Schreiber claimed gold, completing just under 15km in 20:39.5. Nina Berton secured silver with a time of 21:39.74.

Martial arts

Jenny Warling added to Luxembourg’s gold medal haul with a victory in the women’s -55kg kumite final, defeating Montenegro’s Helena Backovic 5:2. This triumph comes shortly after Warling’s recent silver medal at the European Championships, marking another major international achievement for the Luxembourgish athlete.

Jordan Sibille secured Luxembourg’s fourth gold medal by winning the kumite final in the -67kg category. The Luxembourg karateka dominated Cyprus’ Markos Zigkas Tsangaras with an 8-0 victory.

Luxembourg’s Anetta Mosr claimed gold in the -63kg judo weight class. With a narrow points victory, she triumphed over Monaco’s Rania Drid in the final.

Luxembourg’s Carla Tavares Fernandes took silver in the -52kg judo final. She was defeated by Monaco’s Yamina Sara Allag by ippon.

Gymnastics 

The Luxembourg men’s gymnastics team secured the bronze medal with a score of 201.500 points. Cyprus took gold with 216.200 points, while Monaco earned silver with 203.100 points.

Shooting

In the 10m air rifle shooting event, Luca Klein earned the bronze medal. Gold and silver went to athletes from Cyprus and Montenegro, respectively. The young Luxembourger narrowly missed out on the top spot, falling short by around 22 points – but still secured a valuable podium finish for his country.

Luxembourg’s Isor Gofette earned the silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle event, scoring 243.6 points. The gold medal went to Liechtenstein’s Leonie Mautz, who finished with 245.8 points.

Table tennis

The Luxembourgish duo of Sarah  De Nutte and Enisa  Sadikovic secured the bronze medal in the women’s table tennis doubles. They narrowly missed out on the final after a 1-3 defeat against Malta in the semifinals.

The Luxembourgish men’s doubles team, Tom Scholtes and Maël van Dessel, won the table tennis final with a commanding 3-0 victory over Cyprus in the decisive match.
