On Friday 25 October, Luxembourg's women's football team will face a monumental challenge as they take on Sweden. Stream live on RTL Today.

A two legged semi-final, where Luxembourg will face the FIFA world number 5 in a contest for European qualification is on the line. They have previous experience of facing giants in the women's game as they took on England in a friendly earlier this year. They will be looking to improve on the 9-0 loss but it will not be easy.

The winner on aggregate will play either Bosnia-Herzegovina or Serbia in the final.

The first leg will be played on Friday evening at 7.30pm at Stade Emile Mayrisch in Esch and will be streamed live on today.rtl.lu. On Tuesday, Dan Santos' team will then face an away game in Gothenburg.

Goalkeeper Lucie Schlimé will certainly have a lot of work to do. The experience from matches against teams like the European champions England could prove helpful.

Lucie Schlimé: “I’ve played in matches like this before. We want to play our game, but I have to be prepared for a lot coming my way. I’ll watch a lot of analysis videos.”

There was still a question mark around captain Laura Miller. The Standard Liège player was recently injured and had to watch her team from the sidelines last weekend against Essevee.

Laura Miller: “I had a lesion in my hamstring. Whether I can play on Friday is still uncertain. I’ll have an MRI beforehand, and then we’ll see if it’s possible or not.”

On Thursday afternoon, the all-clear came through – Laura Miller can play. Dan Santos’ team has previously faced major nations like European champions England and Austria. The goal for these two matches against Sweden is to put up a better fight.

Dan Santos: “For us, it’s mainly about the way we play against them. These two matches will certainly be an experience, but it’s about showing the courage to hold our own against such opponents at times. I hope many spectators come out to watch and see that we’ve made progress.”
