The National Junior Championship this weekend showcased the rising golf talent of the Grand Duchy and beyond, as young athletes gathered to compete in a two-day event at the Golf Club Clervaux.

The competition, spanning 36 holes, saw 12 boys and girls aged 10 to 17 take on the challenging course. Despite the demanding conditions, which included hilly terrain and tough greens damaged by a recent plague, these young golfers demonstrated impressive resilience and determination, completing both rounds with unwavering enthusiasm.

In the end, the crowned champions in their respective age categories were Emma Lahaije and Greta Grohs for the girls, and Maxime Morn, Emile Chibert, and Daniel Morn, who tied for first place on the boys’ side. The Luxembourgish Golf Federation recognised their achievements, as well as the efforts of all the participants, rewarding their hard work and commitment throughout the championship.

Among the standout talents was 12-year-old Greta Grohs, who not only clinched the national champion title for another consecutive year but has also competed internationally. Greta’s impressive resume includes participation in 15 tournaments across six countries this year, with top 10 finishes in three of them.

Reflecting on her performance after completing her second round, she said, "I’m happy because I played very well on the first nine, but I need to remember that it’s not over yet. It’s more fun when there’s more competition, and it would be nice to have better greens to play on because these were a bit sandy." Greta also shared her goal for the year: "I want to bring my handicap down to 12. Last year, I was at 25, and now I’m so close at 12.9. I want to get it to 12.0."

Like Greta, all the participants displayed exceptional talent and a strong passion for golf. Their dedication is a promising sign for the future of the sport in Luxembourg. As the younger generation embraces the game, there is hope that more young players will join these tournaments, helping to grow the sport’s presence in the country.
