Luxembourg's team finished 10th at the inaugural Golf Mid-Amateur Team Championship held at Golf Club de Chiberta in France, with Spain emerging as the ultimate champion.
Under challenging weather conditions, the first edition of the Golf Mid-Amateur Team Championship (players over 25 years) was held at the very challenging Golf Club de Chiberta in France from 11-14 September, with a total of 16 countries competing for the title.
Luxembourg’s team, comprised of Loïc Barthels, Jens Buch, Arnaud Castellana, and Patrick Rahmé who qualified for the mid-amateur team, faced a tough start with torrential rain and strong winds on the first day.
On the second day, the Luxembourgish team recovered, and they managed to reach 11th place. They started their third day with a match play format against Italy, winning all three matches. On the final day, Luxembourg faced Switzerland in a hard-fought match that ended 2-1 in favour of the Swiss, resulting in a 10th-place finish for Luxembourg.
The first ever crowned European Mid-Amateur Team Champion was Spain, leaving France as runner-up.
In the words of Arnaud Castellana: “It was a successful week, because the team achieved their goal of earning a top-10 finish in this European Competition”. He also was thankful, adding: “We want to extend our gratitude to the European Golf Association (EGA) and Golf de Chiberta for hosting this wonderful tournament and would like to thank the Luxembourgish Golf Federation (FLG) for giving us the opportunity to compete on the highest European stage.”
Congratulations to the team for their excellent performance.
