On the first day of the European Athletics Championships, Patrizia van der Weken finished sixth in the 100m sprint final in a time of 11.10 seconds. Shortly after 10.50pm on Monday, the final got under way in Birmingham, where Britain's Amy Hunt claimed the European title in a time of 11.00 seconds.
Behind her, Poland's Ewa Swoboda (11.02 seconds) and Belgium's Delphine Nkansa (11.06 seconds) rounded out the podium.
In the first semi-final at 9.10pm on Monday, the Luxembourg sprinter came in second in a time of 11.08 seconds, which allowed her to qualify directly for the final. First place went to the favourite, Amy Hunt of Great Britain, in 10.99 seconds.
In the second and third semi-finals, Switzerland's Géraldine di Tizio-Frey, Italy's Zaynab Dosso, Poland's Ewa Swoboda, and Belgium's Delphine Nkansa all booked their tickets to the final. The two fastest legal times both came out of the first heat.
Britain's Dina Asher-Smith, on 11.10 seconds, and Switzerland's Salomé Kora, on 11.12 seconds, completed the field. Overall, van der Weken set the fourth-fastest time of the semi-finals.
Luxembourg middle- and long-distance runners Vera Bertemes and Ruben Querinjean will also take on the European Championships this week, with Bertemes competing in both the 1,500m and the 5,000m and Querinjean lining up in his gold-medal-winning steeplechase discipline.
Twenty-four-year-old Querinjean will contest the 3,000m steeplechase. It is the discipline in which he took gold at the World University Games in Germany last year. Currently ranked 13th in the world, he has a shot at a top finish in Birmingham.
He will make his first appearance on Thursday in round one of the steeplechase:
29-year-old Vera Bertemes qualified for the European Championships through her place in the world rankings for the 1,500m. The Luxembourg runner will take part in two events, the 1,500m and the 5,000m.
It will be the first time Bertemes lines up in the 5,000m on an international level.
