Having previously conquered the English and Catalina Channels, Ultra swimmer Paule Kremer has now triumphantly circled Manhattan, marking her completion of the esteemed Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
After becoming the first Luxembourgish swimmer to successfully swim the English Channel in 2017, and crossing the Catalina Channel in California last year, Kremer has now completed a tour around Manhattan in New York, including the East, Harlem, and Hudson rivers. This means that the ultra swimmer has completed the so-called Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
Kremer took eight hours and 13 minutes to complete the 40-km-long route underneath 20 bridges that connect Manhattan to the rest of New York. The ultra swimmer did so without holding on to anything for the entirety of the challenge.
The water temperature was 25°C during at the time of Kremer's attempt.
She later described the experience in conversation with RTL: "I think it was the easiest challenge that I have completed thus far for the simple reason that there is something happening all the time, ... there are people screaming, there is always something to see. ... It was fun because it is like a sight-seeing tour for the swimmer."
Kremer's next targets include swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar and the North Channel.
