The road cycling tour will start on Tuesday and finish on Saturday.
For the first time since 2005, one of the five stages will be a time trial. The last one, set in Bettembourg, was won by Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara, while Luxembourgish cycling legend Kim Kirchen finished in fifth place.
In light of last year's issues, safety was made a central topic during the tour's opening press conference on Wednesday. This year, the last phases of every stage will be completely shut for traffic. Furthermore, officials will work on avoiding oncoming traffic during the remaining parts of the tour.
Organisers chose challenging stages for this year's edition of the Tour de Luxembourg. The first one is expected to be won by a sprinter, while the second stage will most likely see greater distances between individual riders. The race will later be decided in the capital on Saturday.
The most prominent names in this year's starting list include Vincenzo Nibali (ITA), Bauke Mollema (NED), Thibaut Pinot (FRA), and Nairo Quintana (COL). Eight Luxembourgish riders will participate, including Bob Jungels, Ben Gastauer, and Alex Kirsch.
The Skoda Tour de Luxembourg will be shown live on RTL daily from 2.00 p.m. onward. Similarly, the race can be followed via RTL.lu and on RTL Radio.
