Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen took the gold with a new Olympic record time of 3:28.32.

Charel Grethen represented the Grand Duchy at Saturday's Olympic final for the 1500 metres, coming in 12th place with a time of 3:36:80. This marked both a career and historical high for Grethen and Luxembourgish athletics.

The gold medal went to 20-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway, who achieved a new Olympic record in the process. He was joined on the podium by Kenya's Timothy Cheruioyot in silver medal position, and Josh Kerr of Great Britain who took bronze.

Grethen broke Luxembourg's national record during qualifying on Thursday, improving the record by almost 4 seconds as he completed the race in 3:32:86.

A public viewing of the race took place at the Glacis in Luxembourg City on Saturday.
