The Olympic Games in Tokyo had to be postponed by a year due to the corona pandemic.

It remains to be seen under which conditions the Olympic Games can be organised in a year's time.

During the lates congressional meeting of the Luxembourgish Olympic association COSL, technical director Heinz Thews provided insight into the latest developments: "There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment. We are preparing as if the Games were held next year, but the organisers still have to get a grip of this new situation. We will sit down for discussions with them for the first time in July."

Until further notice, the preparations for the Olympic Games will continue for COSL athletes and staff alike. Thews described the process as dynamic and remains optimistic about the future of the Olympics. How the Games will be held, remains to be seen.

Thews emphasised that the postponement could be beneficial for athletes that had trouble qualifying in time for the 2020 Games.

Jenny Warling thus still has a chance to represent Luxembourg in Tokyo, just like Charel Grethen. A unique opportunity for Warling, since Karate will be a one-time addition to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
