The fourth annual Luxembourg Rugby Ladies’ Day takes place on Saturday 25 April at Stade Boy Konen, with organisers inviting participants of all ages and experience levels to come along and give rugby a try.

Chris Gill from Rugby Club Luxembourg joined the Sam Steen Show on RTL Today Radio this morning to talk about the event, which continues to grow year on year.
“It gets bigger every year”, he said. “The idea is to introduce the game to women and girls who maybe have never thought about it or just want to give it a try.”

Open to all, no experience needed

The event is designed as a relaxed and welcoming introduction to rugby, with participants able to explore both touch and contact rugby in a safe and supportive environment.

“You can choose what you want to do”, Gill explained. “If you prefer not to be tackled, you can go for touch. If you want to try contact, you can do that too.”

Sessions will be run by members of the club, giving participants a chance to learn the basics, try out drills and get a feel for the sport. No special equipment is required, just comfortable sportswear and trainers.

A growing sport and community

Women’s rugby is one of the fastest-growing areas of the game globally, something reflected locally in Luxembourg.

“The sport is really taking off”, Gill said, pointing to increasing crowds and participation.

Beyond the sport itself, Rugby Club Luxembourg is keen to highlight the strong community aspect of the club. “We’re very much a community club”, Gill said. “If you’re new to Luxembourg, it’s a great way to meet people. We have a lot of different nationalities and a really welcoming atmosphere.”
