The decision will be taken on 27 June during an exceptional meeting of officials and fix the number of teams for the upcoming season.

During a meeting on 16 May, no accord could be found since none of the three proposals received a majority of votes.

New motions could be send in for the male league, with completely new options emerging from the process.

According to our sources, two proposals are currently being put up for discussion, one with 12 teams, the other with 13.

1st Proposal

If choice falls on the option with 12 teams, which has already been supported by a number of teams, BBC AS Soleuvre will have to play in the second division.

Two rounds would be played in this scenario with a total of 22 games.

After that, play-offs would start according to international custom: 1st vs. 8th, 2nd vs. 7th, 3rd vs. 6th, and 4th vs. 5th.

These games would be played until the final in a best-of-five mode.

In the second division, 8 teams would play over four rounds, which would amount to 28 games, the 2 highest ranking teams being promoted at the end.

This motion also considers the female league, proposing 9 teams to play 16 games over two rounds, followed by the same play-off mode that the male league will undertake.

2nd Proposal

Option number 2 has been worked out by former BBC Arantia Larochette player Rui Nunes and is being supported among others by BBC Sparta Bertrange.

The plan envisions an interim season with 13 teams, thus including Soleuvre, which naturally supports the idea, followed by 12 teams playing in the following season.

The play-off mode is the exact same as in the other proposal.

The second division would include 10 teams and could be filled with B teams from first division clubs to give younger players a chance.

However, according to RTL sources, the league's statutes do not allow B teams to play in the second division, which would therefore require adaptations.

This proposal does not provide a solution for the female league.

What's next?

During the exceptional congress on 27 June, a decision between both options will be made, with a majority being needed to win.

If none of the current proposals are accepted, a decision will be taken nonetheless and the season mode will remain unchanged, thus excluding BBC Amicale Steinsel and AB Contern from the Total League.

Apart from this pressing issue, another motion will be put forward by T71 Dudelange which would limit the number of non-JICL players to a maximum of 2 on the field. This proposal would not apply to the second division.
