Luxembourg is due to play Portugal at the Josy Barthel Stadium on Sunday at 3pm, but UEFA officials are concerned about the state of the lawn.

Whether or not the match will take place will lay in the hands of the referee on Sunday, who will judge whether the pitch is too damaged for the football match to take place. Since concerns were raised, City of Luxembourg officials have sprung into action to improve the state of the pitch, despite the weather not helping.

Additionally, UEFA has charged a pitch export to manage the emergency works to ensure the grass is in a good enough condition for the game to take place.

Already last Thursday as F91 Dudelange and FC Sevilla played their Europa League match, the pitch had been in a bad state. To not aggravate matters, the Luxembourgish Football Federation (FLF) has banned training from taking place ahead of the match on Sunday. Instead, the federation must find a pitch in a better state for both teams to train ahead of the encounter. The match will be the last before the Euro 2020.

Only time will tell whether the match will be able to go ahead.
