To mark the formal end of the Esch2022 European Capital of Culture project, various official final reports have now been submitted to the European Commission and a publication for the general public has been published here. Print copies can be requested at info@esch2022.lu.
Just over a year ago, Esch2022, together with Kaunas2022 and NoviSad2022, handed over the title of European Capital of Culture in Athens to its successors for 2023, the first time in this form in the history of the "ECoCs." Recently, a ceremony was held once again at the Acropolis Museum to mark the occasion. The reports from Esch2022 also underline once more that these projects are not large-scale events that last about a year, but rather a network of long-term projects that bring lasting change to regions across Europe. Much will remain: new places and spaces for culture, concepts and projects that are further developed, networks that are maintained.
"To pay tribute to the legacy of Esch2022 in the future, we have developed a logo that all project partners can continue to use," says Nancy Braun, Director General of Esch2022. "Many are already communicating about the continuation and further development of their projects or places that were created in the course of the European Capital of Culture project. It makes everyone involved - initiators, protagonists, supporters, citizens, and guests - proud and reminds future generations that it is worth nurturing ideas like seeds so that they can grow and take roots, beyond the usual borders."
