Three minors violently attacked and robbed

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the acts were committed around 9pm on Wednesday, 1 April near the Council of State building. The three victims, aged 16, were approached by a group of four hooded individuals, at least one of which turned out to be a minor as well.

The presumed perpetrators threatened the victims with a knife and demanded one of the victim’s jacket as well as a phone. Additionally, they threatened them with severe consequences if they contacted the police.

The C3R police station in Luxembourg City launched an investigation, during which a minor, almost 17 years old, was identified as a suspect. At his home, officers found the stolen jacket and the mobile phone. As there were no available places at the Unisec facility in Dreiborn, the minor was transferred to Schrassig.

Figure of the day

A major recruitment drive launched in 2019 has led to major changes in police training, as 600 new officers were taken on in three waves.

  • A sharp increase in recruitment has led to major changes in police training in Luxembourg, with class sizes rising well beyond previous levels. While between 40 and 80 police students enrolled each year in the past, around 200 recruits have joined annually over the past three years. This rapid growth quickly made it clear that the old police school in North Bonnevoie-Verlorenkost would no longer be able to hold capacity.
  • Although a new training facility was built in Findel, it was not large enough to accommodate the previous two-year training model. As a result, the structure of the programme has been adapted.
