Now, RTL Today Radio has tickets to give away for their upcoming Luxembourg show at Rockhal on June 18th,.
The band's rise has become something of an indie-rock fairy tale. Frontman Ethan Ramon revealed to RTL Today Radio that it all started with a carefully prepared cold email.
"We had our first record done, we had the visual assets, press photos, a cover letter and a demo reel," he explained. "Pretty much the first day after I sent it, I heard back from Rough Trade."
There was just one small problem.
The band had barely played live.
Rough Trade founders Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee wanted to see The Sophs perform before making any decisions, prompting the group to quickly pull together a showcase performance.
"It lit a fire under us," Ramon said. "We signed before the end of the year."
At a time when much of the music industry seems focused on solo artists and social media personalities, The Sophs have gone the other way.
The six-piece band draws together indie rock, garage rock, folk and alternative influences, creating songs that feel unpredictable and refreshingly ambitious.
For Ramon, keeping six people involved was never really a debate.
"Nobody else could do what anybody else in the band does," he said. "We were all best friends before forming the band, so it just made sense."
That collaborative spirit has become one of the band's biggest strengths.
Despite coming from California, The Sophs have found some of their biggest audiences overseas.
"Our biggest markets right now by far are the UK and France," Ramon revealed. "The cosign from Rough Trade means a bit more in Europe and the UK, and there's just more of a market for bands."
That growing European fanbase has helped propel Goldstar, a debut album that explores identity, self-doubt and belonging while shifting effortlessly between genres.
And Luxembourg fans may get an early glimpse of what's next.
Asked whether the band would be playing any new material on this tour, Ramon confirmed they would.
"We're at least doing two or three unreleased tracks," he said. "Maybe more."
