On Friday, October 9th, Placebo return to Luxembourg with Placebo RE:CREATED, a new live show built around their groundbreaking self-titled debut album.
Released in 1996, Placebo arrived at the height of Britpop, but Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal offered something very different from much of the guitar music dominating Britain at the time.
Now, three decades later, they're going back to where it began.
Placebo's debut introduced a band with a rawer, more confrontational sound and a willingness to tackle identity, sexuality and alienation head-on.
Songs including "Nancy Boy" and "36 Degrees" quickly became defining tracks, helping establish Placebo as one of the most distinctive alternative rock bands to emerge from the 1990s.
But RE:CREATED isn't intended as a straightforward anniversary run-through of the record.
Placebo have reworked the original material through the lens of the band they are today, reshaping songs written three decades ago with the scale and intensity developed over years of live performances.
The result brings together two versions of Placebo: the band that emerged in 1996 and the one still filling venues 30 years later.
And Luxembourg clearly wants to be there. The October 9th show at Rockhal's Main Hall is sold out.
Belgian punk band Maria Iskariot will open the night, bringing a rather different kind of chaos to Rockhal.
Their music is noisy, urgent and deliberately rough around the edges, mixing punk with lyrics about growing up, uncertainty and trying to make sense of the world around them.
Their debut EP, EN/EN, arrived in April 2024 through Dutch label Burning Fik, tackling everything from the struggle to distinguish right from wrong to wanting the world to change without necessarily knowing how to change it.
