However, the government is accelerating the purchase of threat-detection equipment and implementing its national drone action plan while investigations into the drones' origin continue.
HOUSE PRICES FALL – Latest figures from Luxembourg’s housing observatory show property prices have fallen 2.2% year-on-year in the second quarter. Existing house prices dropped 3.7%, while apartment rents rose 5.8%, driven by limited new construction and strong demand.
WEEKEND ROAD CLOSURES – The National Roads Administration announced that the ramp from the A13 in Bettembourg towards the A4 in the direction of Luxembourg City will be closed over the weekend. The Foetz, Pontpierre, and Leudelange-Nord interchanges towards the capital will also be closed for resurfacing.
POPE ARRIVES IN FRANCE – Pope Leo XIV flies to France today for the Vatican's first state visit to the European nation in 18 years, with artificial intelligence and young believers near the top of his agenda. The Pope is due to arrive in Metz on Monday with the visit expected to trigger major security measures and travel restrictions. Drivers are urged to avoid the centre and use park-and-ride shuttles and the train network.
NETANYAHU ADDRESSES UN ASSEMBLY – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly yesterday sparking uproar in the chamber. He used the platform to criticise Iran, Turkey, and Israel’s Western allies, Britain and France. Multiple diplomats walked out during the speech, in which Netanyahu defended Israel’s actions and accused Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons.
ITALY BANS BURQAS IN SCHOOLS – Wearing burqas and niqabs in school in Italy has been banned under a new decree adopted by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s cabinet. The government is also introducing a "a 30 percent cap on the number of students in a class who do not have an adequate command of Italian, as Meloni wrote on social media. Parents of children struggling to integrate may be required to attend free Italian lessons, with fines of up to €1,000 for failing to comply. The measures have drawn strong criticism from multiple groups across the country
PRESIDENTS CUP – In golf, the US leads the Internationals 3-2 after the opening day of the Presidents Cup in Chicago. The Americans are seeking an 11th consecutive Presidents Cup victory.
JAPAN SWIMMING SENSATION – Japan’s 17-year-old swimming sensation Shin Ohashi is bidding for a third Asian Games gold after smashing the 200-metre breaststroke world record. He’s qualified fastest for tonight’s 50-metre final.
PORTUGAL V WALES – Portugal opened their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 win over Wales in Lisbon, despite Christiano Ronaldo having a goal ruled offside; Joao Felix scored from distance after 22 minutes.
