María Lucía Romero and Sara Cantelar joined the Sam Steen Show on RTL Today Radio to talk about Building a Life in Luxembourg, a live podcast and networking event taking place on Tuesday, October 6th, at The Place in Hollerich.
Organised by Luxembourg-registered non-profit association Seeds for a Better World, the evening will bring together expats, entrepreneurs, founders and anyone who has chosen to make Luxembourg their home.
But there's a second purpose behind the event: helping children in Colombia access education.
For María Lucía Romero, who is originally from Colombia, the two objectives are closely connected.
“Seeds for a Better World has two main purposes,” she explained during the interview. “One, help people to feel the sense of belonging in Luxembourg. And the other one is giving to others, giving to those children education, basically.”
Her podcast explores the contributions people make to their communities, with guests sharing their experiences of building something meaningful in Luxembourg.
The upcoming live edition will focus specifically on what it means to settle here, establish connections and develop a sense of belonging in a country that so many people have chosen to call home.
María explained that the idea is to explore how people can make Luxembourg feel like home, while recognising the different experiences and challenges that come with moving to a new country.
The live podcast will feature three guests bringing different perspectives on life in Luxembourg.
Joining María will be Sara Cantelar, co-organiser of the event and founder of Sense Living, alongside Henry Fernandez, co-founder of Move Me, a platform supporting people relocating to Luxembourg.
The panel will also include Angelique Ziganek, an author and certified master coach whose work focuses on the emotional challenges of relocating and establishing a new life abroad.
The audience won't simply be watching a recording, either.
Sara explained that the evening will give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how a podcast is produced, with the opportunity to put their own questions to the panellists.
“It will be really interactive,” she said.
The live discussion will be followed by a raffle featuring prizes provided by event sponsors, before attendees have the opportunity to meet one another during a networking session.
The idea, Sara explained, is to connect newcomers and established residents with people, businesses and organisations that can help them settle into Luxembourg.
“If you are an expat or if you are a newcomer, you really feel at home faster. And that's the key purpose behind it.”
And among the raffle prizes is something rather special: the chance to win a flight around Luxembourg.
Beyond the conversations and networking, every ticket will help support the work of Seeds for a Better World.
María explained that her motivation for establishing the charity came from a desire to continue her family's tradition of helping others.
The association is raising funds to provide children in rural Colombia with educational resources, including school supplies and uniforms.
“Your ticket will be a donation,” she explained, describing how the funds will help children access the materials they need to attend school.
For María, the connection between the two countries is central to the association's work: building a community in Luxembourg while creating opportunities for children elsewhere.
It's an idea neatly captured by the event's tagline:
“An evening in Luxembourg, a child in school in Colombia.”
Building a Life in Luxembourg takes place on Tuesday, October 6th, from 18:00 to 22:00, at The Place, a private members' club in Hollerich.
The evening is open to anyone interested in meeting new people, sharing experiences and supporting the association's educational work.
