October Faction – Netflix
Fred and Deloris Allen return to their small hometown with their teenage children after the death of Fred’s father.
The children, Geoff and Viv, are not happy to settle down, as they are used to a travelling lifestyle which has allowed them to live in a lot of different countries and cultures. Although used to adjusting to new acquaintances and new surroundings, they have difficulty adapting to the narrow mindset of the small American town they are now forced to live in.
What they don’t know is that their parents work for a clandestine global organization, the “Presidio Foundation”. Its mission is to kill supernatural beings and monsters that the “normal” world knows nothing about.
Upon their return to the family home, Geoff Allen starts to uncover what his father was working on before dying, while his children uncover what their parents are up to when they’re not home.
“October Faction” – the comic – was created Steve Niles and first published in 2015 by IDW Publishing. The fifth and last volume came out in 2018.
“October Faction” – the show – is based on the comics, but expands the universe of the books by adding the “Presidio Foundation” - in the books the Allen Family work alone in their detective agency - by making the characters more diverse and by adding a conspiracy where in the books the family only fights supernatural powers.
While the comics are done in a dark, gothic style, and mostly about the monsters, the show is more modern in its approach, developing the character arcs and multiplying the action scenes.
“October Faction” is available on Netflix.
