
Every year, experts from the Global Footprint Network calculate the moment after which the world has used up more resources than the Earth can restore naturally.
Following the first pandemic year, during which the Overshoot Day was only attained on 22 August, the world now seems back to its pre-pandemic rate, comparable to 2019 and 2018. Luxembourg is one of the countries using up most of the resources. Only Qatar had an even earlier Overshoot Day this year.
