The Ministry of the Economy said on Tuesday that the date for the start of the winter sales was fixed as 20 January for the departments of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Vosges and Guadeloupe.
Normally the winter sales start earlier in Lorraine than anywhere else in France, in line with the sales in the Grand Duchy. But this year, the border region will have to follow the rest of the country.
This could prove to be yet another blow for the retail sector, which hoped for support from the government in withstanding the crisis.
