Chief Inspector Martin Halweg told The Associated Press on Monday that the local police force was no longer tracking the animal as it was not believed to represent a risk to the public.
It is thought the wallaby belongs to a private owner. The circumstances of its escape are unclear.
A video posted on Facebook showed the animal hopping down a dark road and stopping to lick its paws as a woman expresses surprise.
Halweg said such cases were rare and that he had not come across a runaway kangaroo or wallaby in three decades of police work.
Here in the Grand Duchy, RTL readers may remember the case of Sammy, a runaway wallaby who traversed Luxembourg after escaping his owner’s home in June 2024.
