As part of its maintenance program, production unit 1 of the Cattenom nuclear power plant was shut down overnight from 14 to 15 March, marking the start of the 2025 industrial maintenance campaign.
This scheduled shutdown, known as a “partial inspection”, will allow for fuel renewal and extensive safety and maintenance operations. More than 12,000 tasks are planned, along with 34 modifications to the facility, aimed at further strengthening reactor safety.
Beyond routine inspections, major maintenance work will be carried out, including the replacement of 21 nuclear power control rod drive mechanisms, a full inspection of a low-pressure casing in the turbo-alternator unit, and the replacement of the hydraulic section of a motor pump in the reactor’s primary circuit.
This maintenance period will also enable EDF teams and partner companies to anticipate work related to the reactor’s fourth safety review, scheduled for 2027.
Meanwhile, production units 2, 3, and 4 remain operational, ensuring the plant continues to supply electricity to the national grid.
