BURGLARY POST OFFICE - An attempted burglary has been reported at the Post branch office in Junglinster, resulting in the closure of the premises until further notice. According to the police, the break-in occurred in the early hours of Monday. The suspects used a vehicle to forcibly breach the front entrance. However, their actions triggered an alarm, prompting the criminals to hastily flee the scene. ARSONIST ARRESTED - Police have confirmed the arrest of a suspected arsonist in Petange. On Friday, 27 October, emergency services responded to a fire in a ground-floor flat within a 2-story building. On-site investigations and eyewitness accounts led the police to conclude that it was indeed arson. REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY - The Anglican Church of Luxembourg will commemorate Remembrance Day with a solemn service at the Konvikt Chapel on Sunday, 12 November. The service will have a poignant moment at 11am, known as the Act of Remembrance. ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR - An emergency meeting at the UN Security council has heard that the situation in Gaza is growing worse by the hour. UN aid agencies repeated their calls for a humanitarian ceasefire at the meeting. According to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, more than 8000 people have been killed, many of them children.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has categorically ruled out a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas, as ground forces pushed into Gaza and freed one hostage. The military has released images of Israeli mechanized infantry grinding through northern Gaza, while witnesses on Monday reported tanks on the outskirts of Gaza City. Israel said it hit 600 targets in 24 hours, one of the most intense periods of bombing to date.

UKRAINE FIGHTER JETS - The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has confirmed the first US-made F16 combat aircraft the Netherlands is donating to Ukraine will arrive in Romania’s training centre within two weeks. Denmark, Norway and Belgium have also announced they will give F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Rutte said, that what is happening now in Gaza and the attack on Israel will not distract from the war in Ukraine.

EU WESTERN BALKANS - EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is in Montenegro and Serbia today. She will have meetings with the two presidents. This Western Balkan trip is about financial support for the region, reform efforts of the various countries and putting an end to the tensions between Serbia and Kosovo.

BALLON D’OR - Lionel Messi won the eighth Ballon d’Or of his remarkable career at a glittering ceremony in Paris last night, while Spain’s World Cup-winning star Aitana Bonmati took the women’s prize.
