Police and ambulance services were called out following reports of “loud bangs” in the southern Swedish city of Kristianstad at around 3.40pm on Tuesday.

Initial media reports stated that several people had reportedly been injured in the shooting, which followed another shooting in Kristianstad on Monday in which no one was injured. It is unclear if the two are connected.

At least six police patrols and several ambulances were called to the scene, with a police spokesperson stating that they were working on getting an overview of the situation as of around 4pm.

By 4.45pm, two presumed gunshot victims has been found and taken to hospital. As of 5pm, this had increased to three. The extent of their injuries is not known at the time of writing. No motive has as yet been given as to the shooting, while emergency services report that victims were found both in- and outdoors.

A later update confirmed that the victims include two men in their 20s and 30s respectively, and one woman who is reportedly in her 60s.

At least two areas were cordoned off by police, including one in connection to a shopping centre. Local newspaper Kristianstadsbladet also reported that the hospital in which the victims are being treated enabled security protocols with guards placed outside the hospital entrances.

Arrests made

Later on Tuesday evening, police reported that three suspects had been arrested for suspected attempted murder. According to Swedish daily Expressen the three suspects are teenagers, but this has not been confirmed by police. A police spokesperson noted that there may have been others involved, and that this is a possibility they are keeping open as the investigation continues.

It is not yet known whether there is any connection between the three victims, or between the victims and the suspected culprits.
