The exit from the B 51 to the B 410 in the direction of Prüm-Dausfeld was closed this morning, according to the German police bulletin.
A truck lost an estimated 100 crates of empty beer bottles at shortly before 5am.
It is thought that insufficient securing of the load lead to the spillage, as the empties stacked on the lorry tumbled loose as the driver rounded a bend.
The road maintenance department, on site after a few minutes, was able to set up a makeshift exit so that traffic could flow from the B 51 to the B 410 but not before significant traffic built up.
Charges have been applied to the driver and the haulage company as investigations continue.
