A police spokesman said the 23-year-old made a series of passes at the speed camera, pulling faces as he whizzed by. He would flip off the camera, sticking one finger up at the moment the camera flashed.
At one point, he is even seen waving his doner kebab out of the window, said the police spokesman on Monday.
In some cases, he drove at speeds in excess of 128 kilometres per hour. It also transpires that he didn’t have a driver’s license.
The young man felt confident in this behaviour as he thought that he could not be identified.
The police readily admit that the driver was caught only by chance.
The car the man was driving had been leased from a car rental company and registered as a company car to a firm which had subsequently ceased its business.
As there were no contact details available for the company, the man remained unknown.
That was until last Friday (6 November), when an employee of the district court happened to spot the car on a road in Bergneustadt.
And that was that.
The 23-year-old was tracked down, arrested and charged. He admitted the offences and said he had acted deliberately as he had wanted to cause trouble for his boss.
If the dangerous driving charges weren’t enough, the police spokesman confirmed that in German law, the driver pays the fine, not the owner.
