Practically the entire region between Longwy and Aumetz is affected. According to France Bleu Lorraine Nord, the situation is caused by a problem with the sewage system in Mercy-le-Bas, just 15 km away from the Luxembourgish border.

To make the situation a bit more bearable, every household will receive a bottle of water on Friday morning. The 2-litre-bottle will be delivered by the intercommunal association “eaux de piennes”.

While the water pipes are expected to be fixed relatively quickly, the subsequent quality checks to determine whether the water is safe to drink might take a bit more time.
