According to an article on Lokalo.de, Morbach police were called to chaotic scenes near Erbeskopf’s ski run on Sunday.

The slopes are currently open but are having to operate under strict Covid-19 protocols.

However, with plentiful snow forecast for the weekend, hundreds of people hoping to get a quick slalom headed to the small slopes in the Rheinland-Pfalz.

As the snow grew heavier, many of the roads were quickly covered in snow and were not passable by car. Ploughs and gritters were unable to get to the woodland roads and many cars got stuck, leading to a build-up in traffic.

The police put out a request for people to stay at home but it seems many did not heed this warning.

Erbeskopf is a popular place for winter sports for those not keen on pricier ski resorts in the mountains.
