According to a report by the French magazine Gala, newly disclosed documents linked to the case of the convicted US financier Jeffrey Epstein include an email attributed to the Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit following the 2012 wedding of Grand Duke Guillaume and Stéphanie de Lannoy. In the message, sent from an address said to bear the name “HKH Kronprinsessen”, she is described as having expressed a distinctly dismissive view of the ceremony.

In the email, the Crown Princess reportedly characterised the wedding as boring, likening it to being stuck in an old film with familiar characters she would rather leave behind.
The email reads “Boring wedding. It felt like an old film where you already know the characters and don’t linger on them.” Epstein is said to have replied shortly afterwards, asking about her stay.

The message is dated 21 October 2012, the final day of celebrations surrounding the marriage of the then Prince Guillaume. It surfaced as part of a large batch of Epstein-related documents released by US authorities on 30 January, which include correspondence exchanged between Epstein and the Crown Princess.

After her past contact with Epstein became public, Mette-Marit issued a statement expressing regret and acknowledging responsibility for not having examined his background more closely at the time. She also voiced her solidarity with the victims of abuse linked to the case.
