Risk of death multiplies four-fold for the unvaccinated

VaxImpact is based on data from studies carried out by the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), which are updated on a weekly basis.

With easy-to-decipher figures and simple graphs, VaxImpact makes it possible to assess the effects of the vaccine over the course of the pandemic. The risk of hospitalisation is multiplied by 6 for unvaccinated people in France, for example, as shown by studies comparing a group of vaccinated people to a group of unvaccinated. 22 hospital admissions were recorded for the first group, while the latter experienced 132.

When it comes to assessing the risk of potential death, the study examines two groups of identical size, one comprised of vaccinated people, the other unvaccinated individuals. If there is one death per day for the vaccinated group, the data shows the probability of four daily deaths for the unvaccinated group. VaxImpact also makes it possible to estimate the proportion of deaths among unvaccinated people that could have been prevented if they had been vaccinated. Out of 100 deaths among unvaccinated people of all ages, 76 deaths could have feasibly been prevented by getting the jab. This means that of the 20 deaths observed every day in France (as of 25 July), 12 deaths could have been preventable through vaccination.

The team at VaxImpact plans to assess the benefit of getting vaccinated by age group in the future. Data will be updated every Friday, based on reports published by DREES.
