A 64-year-old Luxembourg national has been seriously injured after a fall at a climbing wall in Audun-le-Tiche.

The accident happened on Friday, 3 April, at the popular climbing site of Carrière in Audun-le-Tiche. The man was secured with a rope and wearing a helmet when a rock came loose from the wall, causing him to fall around one metre before being caught by his safety line.

During the fall, he struck his head against the rock face and reportedly lost consciousness shortly afterwards, according to Le Républicain Lorrain.

He was then airlifted to hospital in Nancy.
