Lufthansa flight LH600 on route to Tehran Thursday afternoon could be seen making a u-turn back to its departure airport Frankfurt.

A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that this was a safety precaution.

Midflight the situation of Tehran airport and its airspace was reviewed and assessed, concluding that it was better for the plane not to continue its journey.

This comes after a a Boeing 737-800 was shot down shortly after take off from Tehran airport on Wednesday morning, killing all 176 passengers onboard.
