An elite SWAT team arrested the the obese leader in the northern city of Mosul. His obesity earned him the nickname of “Jabba the Jihadi,” international media reported.
Shifa al-Nima had to be loaded onto the back of a truck to be transported to prison.
“He is considered one of the foremost leaders of Isis and was responsible for issuing fatwas that led to the murder of scholars and clerics,” Iraqi police said. Shifa al-Nima is accused of ordering the destruction of heritage sites in Mosul and of endorsing rape and ethnic cleansing. He for instance issued the fatwa to bomb the tomb of the Prophet Yunus, sparking outrage in the region.
