Just before Christmas the local authorities identified some 420 tourists from the United Kingdom who had to be quarantined. 50 of these travellers departed immediately, but of the remaining 370 only a dozen or so remained in quarantine as of this Sunday.

According to Jean-Marc Sandoz, the spokesperson of the Bagnes Commune to which Verbier belongs, some have now contacted Swiss authorities from France.

The quarantine for British travels was unexpectedly and retrospectively introduced after news broke that a new, more contagious strain of coronavirus had been found in the United Kingdom.

On 21 December local authorities decided that travellers who had arrived from the United Kingdom after the 14 December had to undergo a quarantine.
