HOMELESS REFUGEES - Some refugees in Luxembourg are having to brave the cold and sleep in tents outside, as a new measure means that male refugees who are travelling alone will no longer be immediately accepted at a reception centre in the city. An informal camp with no toilets or running water has popped up under the Pont Adolphe. On Monday there were 2 tents, on Tuesday already 6. This is due to a new measure, decided by the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, that male refugees who have already applied for asylum in another country will be placed on a waiting list and not accepted for immediate accommodation.

World

ISRAEL HAMAS WAR - More people are expected to leave Gaza today via the Rafah crossing, after more than 400 people crossed the border into Egypt yesterday. The Rafah crossing opened yesterday for the first time since the start of the war, allowing 76 injured Gazans and over 300 foreign passport holders to pass.

Explosions were heard in the early hours of the morning around the al-Quds hospital in densely populated Gaza city, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. Israeli authorities have previously warned the hospital to evacuate immediately, which UN officials say is impossible without endangering patients. According to Hamas, 195 Palestinians were killed in attacks on a refugee camp yesterday, as well as 7 hostages. According to the UN Human Rights Office, this attack on a camp could constitute a war crime.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for the Palestinian has reiterated its demand for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. US President Biden also spoke out for a pause in the war between Israel and Hamas while Pope Francis is advocating a 2-state solution. He said that every war would be a defeat.
