
The head of infection medicine at the University of Edinburgh confirmed that four individuals are being tested for suspected coronavirus. The four individuals travelled to Scotland from Wuhan. Three cases are in Edinburgh and one case in Glasgow.
None of the patients have yet been confirmed to have the disease. The authorities are nevertheless on alert as the four people where in the region where the virus is thought to have originated in the last two weeks and they display symptoms such as respiratory trouble.
The head of infection medicine added: “The situation will be pretty similar in pretty much all UK cities with a large number of Chinese students. It’s not too surprising. My suspicion is that there will probably be many more cases in many other cities in the UK. None of the cases I know of have been confirmed.”
The new SARS-like virus has killed 17 people in China, infected hundreds and reached as far as the United States, with fears mounting about its spread as hundreds of millions travel for Lunar New Year celebrations.
