A foreign national posing as a commercial airline pilot was arrested on Monday at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia, after authorities discovered 10kg of cocaine strapped to his body.
According to investigators, the suspect attempted to exploit a fake crew status to bypass standard security procedures and board an international flight bound for Barcelona.
Officials say the man was dressed in a complete commercial pilot’s uniform and presented himself as an active member of an international airline crew in an effort to avoid airport controls.
However, Colombian Anti-Narcotics Police and intelligence teams became suspicious of his behavior and flagged him for further inspection.
During a physical search, officers uncovered six tightly wrapped packages of cocaine hidden beneath his uniform. The packages had been secured around his torso using a specialized girdle and layers of tape.
Authorities confirmed that the seized shipment weighed 10 kilograms – an amount equivalent to approximately 25,000 individual doses of cocaine.
Investigators believe the drugs were destined for distribution networks across Europe.
