
There has been an average of 1,664 daily new infections in Belgium between 29 December and 4 January, a 2% decrease from the previous seven day period, according to data published Friday morning by the public health institute Sciensano. Other numbers, too, are declining.
The updated reproduction rate Rt has not yet been released. It was 0.884 on Thursday.
Over daily 27,500 tests were done on average over the latest seven day span (-5%), with a 6.7% positivity rate.
There has been an average of 131 daily hospital admissions between 1 and 7 January (-21%). A total of 2,016 patients (-3%) were hospitalised due to Covid on Thursday, 382 of them in intensive care.

Number of patients released by 31 December: 209
Belgium has seen an average of 64 deaths per day between 29 December and 4 January. which is a 14.5% decrease from the previous seven day period.
While the numbers seem to be on the decline for our Belgian neighbours, caution is advised, as the trend would need to continue over the next few weeks.
