A startling incident unfolded in Durbuy, Belgium, on Tuesday when a 12-year-old boy stole a utility vehicle and caused several accidents before crashing into a house. Video footage of the event has since gone viral across Belgian media.
According to reports, the child – part of a group of French holidaymakers staying at a Herbet care farm – slipped away from his carers and took advantage of a momentary lapse in supervision to commandeer the farm vehicle. Durbuy’s mayor confirmed the boy managed to start the machine before driving through the Barvaux area.
Multiple media outlets, including Sudinfo, captured footage showing the young driver forcing his way along local roads while shouting “laissez-moi faire” (“leave me to it”). The journey ended when the vehicle collided with a residential building.
Preliminary reports indicate no serious injuries resulted from the incident. Belgian newspaper DH notes the child reportedly has mental health issues.
