The undercover footage was recorded by an activist for Cruelty Free International and SOKO Tierschutz who worked undercover at the facility for several months last year. The footage features several instances of violence by technicians against monkeys, while dogs are seen lying in squalid conditions.
Authorities have now stripped the laboratory of his license, German media reported earlier this Friday. CFI’s Kerry Postlewhite hailed the closure of the lab a major victory for animal welfare campaigners.
He said they were “pleased that the authorities have taken measures to hold LPT accountable,” adding that “the level of cruelty to animals and legal violations uncovered by our investigation is completely unacceptable.”
According to NDR, the lab has been given a two-week period to hand over the animals that still remain at the testing facility.
