Part of the Torre dei Conti, a medieval tower near the Colosseum, has collapsed for the second time on Monday, 3 November.

One worker is in hospital in serious condition and two others suffered minor injuries, rescue services said.

The second collapse occurred during rescue operations, following an initial cave-in during renovation work. Firefighters had just located a worker trapped under the rubble after more than an hour of searching when the structure gave way again, forcing teams to withdraw. Rescue efforts are ongoing.

The 29-metre tower, built in the early 13th century for the family of Pope Innocent III, was under restoration after years of neglect. Authorities said the area was closed to pedestrians during the works. Emergency teams are assessing the site’s stability following the partial collapse.
