
A 25-year-old man has been arrested after a knife attack at a Paderborn education centre left a female student with life-threatening injuries, following a brief manhunt that ended when the suspect contacted police himself.
A student has sustained life-threatening injuries in a stabbing at a further education centre in Paderborn on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bielefeld police, the attack occurred at around 1.15pm in the centre's sports hall. The suspect, a 25-year-old man who is also said to be a student at the centre, fled the scene but subsequently contacted police and turned himself in. He was arrested approximately 45 minutes after the incident near a lake about one kilometre away.
The victim is currently undergoing emergency surgery. Her age has not yet been released by authorities.
Police confirmed a major operation was launched at the centre but assured the public that there was no further danger. "The motive for the crime is currently unclear and part of the ongoing investigation", a police statement said.
