ABORTION RIGHTS – The CSV National Council met last night to discuss whether abortion rights should be enshrined into Luxembourg's constitution. The vast majority of the committee was in favour, emphasising that in this way it is underlining its clear commitment to women's rights and freedom of choice. The Christian Social Party says it will work with its coalition partner, the DP and also with the other political parties represented in the Chamber to ensure that a consensus is found.
VIOLENCE INCREASE – Luxembourg’s police chief Pascal Peters has spoken on the increase in violence in our society. Speaking at the anniversary celebrations of the Luxembourg Police, he said that police statistics show that in the first semester of this year, around 35% more violent acts were recorded than in the same period last year. He emphasised that police officers often find themselves in dangerous situations, are more than once the target of violence and are often in danger, for example, during high-speed car chases.
ACCESSION CELEBRATIONS – Friday marks a historic moment in the Grand Duchy's modern history: After 25 years on the throne, Grand Duke Henri will formally abdicate and his eldest son, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, will take over as Luxembourg's new head of state. The accession to the throne will be marked by several days of celebrations, including a large-scale performance on the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge on Saturday night, featuring eight trams, 1,600 participants and live music. Later a drone show will be held at Glacis square, followed by 32 local artists performing on a 360-degree stage. GAZA WAR – US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu say they have agreed a new peace plan for Gaza, warning Hamas to accept it. The plan calls for a ceasefire, release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, disarmament of Hamas and gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, followed by a post-war transitional authority headed by Trump himself. Eight Arab or Muslim-majority nations have said in a joint statement that they support Trump’s Gaza plan, joining European powers such as France, the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain in welcoming the peace proposal. Hamas has yet to comment in depth, saying the group had yet to receive the plan.
GERMANY INSURANCE – In Germany last year, insurers paid over €1.1 billion for damage caused by motorists hitting animals. The Grand Ducal police have a list of tips to reduce the risk of colliding with a wild animal on their website.
BERLIN WALLABY – Police say a wallaby has been on the run in western Berlin since Sunday morning. Chief Inspector Martin Halweg told The Associated Press on Monday that the local police force was no longer tracking the animal as it was not believed to represent a risk to the public.The circumstances of its escape are unclear.
LUFTHANSA JOBS – German airline group Lufthansa said today it will cut 4,000 jobs, a move underscoring the slump gripping Europe's largest economy. Lufthansa said the majority of the job cuts would be in Germany and take place by 2030, targeting administrative rather than operational positions.

FOOTBALL – Today marks the start of the second matchday in the Champion's League. Among today’s matches, we will see Atalanta playing Bruges and Kairat takes on Real Madrid at 6.45pm. Then at 9pm Marseille play Ajax, Inter vs Slavia Prague, Chelsea play Benfica and Galatasaray play Liverpool. Bayern is playing Pafos and Tottenham take on Bodo Glimt and you can watch the game Eintracht Frankfurt against Atletico on RTL.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL – Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was carted off the field with a serious knee injury in his team's 27-21 victory over the New York Jets on Monday. Footage of the incident showed Hill's leg twisted in an unnatural position as game officials signaled frantically for medical attention.
BASKETBALL – LeBron James says he has not decided when to retire from basketball as he prepares to become the first player in NBA history to play a 23rd season in the league. The 41-year-old Los Angeles Lakers superstar told reporters at a media day that he is "excited" by the prospect of another season in the league alongside Luka Doncic and a bolstered roster.
