A disruption in the power supply caused significant delays and cancellations to Eurostar train services on Monday.

On the northern high-speed rail line (LGV Nord), at least 16 trains scheduled to operate between Paris, London, Brussels and Amsterdam were cancelled by 7pm on Monday.

In addition, two trains – one from Brussels to Paris and another from Paris to Brussels – had to turn back mid-journey. Eurostar informed the AFP news agency that remaining trains in service were experiencing delays of up to an hour and a half.

According to Eurostar, the cause of the disruption was a technical issue with the overhead power lines between Moussy and Longueil in France. According to the French railway operator SNCF, technical teams were on site working to resolve the issue. In the meantime, trains were being rerouted onto SNCF’s conventional rail network, according to the SNCF. They state that it remains unclear how long the problem will take to be fully resolved.
