A deadly shooting targeting two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota left one dead and another injured Saturday, in what officials are calling a deliberate political attack.
A gunman in Minnesota shot two Democratic state lawmakers Saturday, killing Melissa Hortman and her husband and wounding another, John Hoffman, in what officials said were targeted attacks.
Governor Tim Walz said the attack at the lawmakers' homes in two towns near Minneapolis "appears to be a politically motivated assassination."
US Attorney General Pam Bondi on Saturday decried the targeted shooting of two Democratic state lawmakers, one fatally, in Minnesota, and said the perpetrators would be prosecuted to "the fullest extent of the law."
"This horrific violence will not be tolerated," Bondi said on X.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday condemned the "terrible shooting" of two Minnesota Democratic state lawmakers, one of whom was killed.
"I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers," Trump said in a statement.
"Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America."
