Train services in France are expected to operate near-normal schedules over the coming days, despite a planned strike by SNCF unions during the weekend of 8 May.
SNCF CEO Jean-Pierre Farandou assured passengers on Tuesday that approximately 90% of trains would run as scheduled. “All departures will run smoothly as there will be virtually no strike action on Wednesday or Thursday”, Farandou stated during an interview with France Inter radio. He added that sufficient services would be available on Sunday to accommodate return journeys.
Monday’s strike action caused only minor delays to regional trains.
All tickets for TGV Inoui and Ouigo trains between 5-11 May remain eligible for free exchanges or refunds. Alain Krakovitch, Director of TGV-Intercités at SNCF Voyageurs, confirmed that travellers affected by cancellations will receive a 50% discount voucher for future trips – applicable even if they opt for alternative services.
