As Luxembourg slips into an orange alert, neighbouring France's weather agency has placed 16 departments under an orange alert. The reason: 'a winter episode requiring special caution' starting on Saturday evening.
This weekend, all of Lorraine and the rest of the departements in the Grand-Est region are affected by weather conditions bringing snow and black ice. In its latest forecast, Météo France placed 16 departements under an orange alert, including all those sharing a border with Luxembourg.

We can expect ‘snowfall and above all freezing rain’ on Saturday night. The weather website is urging caution as ‘even small amounts of freezing rain’ could cause serious disruption to road traffic. The alert will not be lifted until around 9 am on Sunday in Lorraine. It will first turn yellow at 6 am and then be lifted mid-morning.
So if you're planning to hit the road in the region, it would be wise to avoid doing so between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. For its part, Météolux has now also placed Luxembourg under orange alert for Saturday night. The station is forecasting snow and freezing rain. We, too, will have to remain cautious when travelling on our roads tonight.
